What We Are Looking For
Originality.
We are looking for fiction that is engaging and thought provoking. It should be well written and grab us from the outset. A story that jumps out at us from the start will do well.
Poems should grab us by the scruff of the neck, make us think or laugh out loud at the absurdity of life.
What We Are NOT Looking For
Absolutely NO pornography, racism, bigotry, gratuitous violence or sexual violence. This is not art and none of us enjoy reading it.
We have started a blacklist. Send us this stuff and you will go on it.
Other Information
We do not accept previously published work. We reserve the right to reject a piece, even after acceptance, if it is found to have been published elsewhere. We do run checks.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable provided you agree to let us know
if the piece is accepted elsewhere first.
Where and What To Submit
Please use our online submission manager
Full details of what to submit are in the submission manager.
We aim to respond within 8 weeks of submission. If you have not heard anything by then please drop us an email.
If your piece is accepted for publication we may require you to sign a digital contract, though this is not always the case.
If accepted, your piece may be subject to a small amount of editorial
control. Any alterations will be minor and will normally only revolve around grammatical errors or spelling mistakes. We do not believe in tampering with the original vision of a writer's work, and are conscious of this throughout the whole process. Any suggestions for major improvement will be made in writing after acceptance.
Copyright & Reimbursement
The Ranfurly Review publishes under First Publication Rights only. All
copyrights revert to contributors upon publication.
This means that anything
accepted for publication must not have appeared anywhere before we publish
it. After we publish it, it's yours again.
Each issue is also archived into the Back Issue section, therefore as well as First Publication Rights, we also require Nonexclusive Online Archival Rights. This means our archiving does not inhibit other magazines publishing your work after us.
The Ranfurly Review is a non-profit e-zine, so we regret we are unable to pay contributors at this time.
